Entrainment and the Intelligence of Fascia
(Pt. II of III)
This is what can sometimes be called entrainment
Sometimes this seems like “intuition,” but intuition isn’t some mystical flash.
In fact, it’s far more intelligent than our thinking mind.
It’s what happens when your awareness is actually inside your hands instead of hovering several inches above your head.
Fascia carries electrical information.
It patterns tension over time, and consolidates a static charge in the name of defense.
The kicker here, is that it starts reorganizing the second it feels non-threatened.
So when the therapist settles into their own spine, their own breath, the inconceivable intelligence of their own body, the client’s system often follows.
The release that normally takes minutes can unfold in seconds— not because of technique—though this is a very vital piece—but more importantly, the environment of resistance in which it is entrained dissolves.
We often think of a session as two separate people: the client dropping in, the therapist “holding space.”
But what actually happens is more like a feedback loop.
When one system rises into thought — even briefly — the other tends to rise with it.
Conversely, when one system sinks back down into its own biorhythm, the other often follows.
This is not psychology, as this process is entirely pre-verbal.
This is where we as therapists start to integrate a more bioenergetic approach—this is where we really see the profound depth of the therapeutic experience.
